Apartment Review
Noisy and not worth the money
Review Date: 6/29/2010

From the day I moved into this apartment, I had nothing but problems. While most of the other tenants are quiet and respectful, a few bad apples spoil the bunch here. The noise level was out of control, really making the place unlivable. A very difficult pill to swallow when paying over $1200 a month to live there! Soon after moving in, I found out the previous tenant had left due to the noise issues as well. The management was moderately helpful in addressing these issues. However, they popped up so frequently that it was a constant battle for peace and quiet. Additionally, the noisy tenants were disrespectful, rude, and combative every time they were confronted. They also own an intact male pit bull which did not help these confrontations. Eventually, management did allow me out of the lease early due to the disturbances. However, I feel bad for the new tenants who took my place! In addition to the noise and constant confrontations regarding it, some of the tenants are not respectful of the grounds, either: trash in the hallways, propping doors open, not picking up after pets, etc. I only needed maintenance to fix things a few times, but they didn't end up actually getting fixed. For example, there was a bird caught in my dryer vent and, while maintenance came out and freed the bird, the holes poked in my dryer vent were never repaired, despite being told that they would be. I also had a window which leaked every time it rained. Although it was "looked at" several times, it continued to leak. Finally, upon moving out, the apartment was left spotless. However, I was charged a cleaning fee of $138. When pressed, I was told all tenants are charged cleaning fees, regardless of condition, even though this is expressly against what is stated in the lease. The amount of rent here is simply not worth the headaches. I would expect these in a campus apartment, but not in Grandview and not at this price. The places look great, but the walls are thin and construction shoddy. Buyer beware!
