Apartment Review for Raccoon Creek Apartments - Columbus, OH

I currently moved into Raccoon Creek in early June. The first impression of this place is that it looked quiet and relaxed because it is located by woods and right next to the park. Boy was I WRONG!! Within my first weekend of moving in I had a softball sized rock thrown through my front room window-it went through 3 panes of glass (including a storm window) hit the wall and caused a huge hole. I had the maintenance out and they where very kind and told me that this stuff usually doesn't happen here well they LIED. Not even 2 weeks later I had taken a short cut home trying to learn the area because I have never lived in this area and went through one of the WORST areas I have ever seen in my ENTIRE life (Wedgewood Apts) which I had no idea are located not even a mile from my home. The same day there were 7 police cars including Columbus Police,Sheriffs and uncover officers swarming our building due to the fact that this place was renting to a felon with numerous warrants for his arrest. This was not a one time thing either,while I have been here there are constantly break ins,robberies and gun fire. At the beginning of my SECOND MONTH here my car was broken into (they broke out my window) stole my clothes and everything out of my car and 3 other peoples. When I went out to talk to the officer he would NOT even get out of his vehicle to take my statement and when I talked to the property manager about this she said they usually WONT EVEN COME OUT to take statements about car breakins they will only take reports over the phone!??? When she told me that then I finally understood what this place is about. There was a younger woman probably mid twenties living a few doors down from me that came up to me and told me that while she has been here she had her door kicked in and was robbed at gun point. Another man told me that he had also been robbed along with 4 others in one night?! Where were the police?? The thing is they don't come here unless its a extreme emergency!! There is no safety in this complex. Not only the HIGH CRIME is terrible here but the noise/numerous children!!! There are ALWAYS children of various ages running around without supervision.I came home to find a little boy still in DIAPERS standing at my front door with no mother any where in sight. I actually walked around the complex for 15 min before I found her and she had no idea he was even gone?? This place is terrible. The office staff seem very nice and understanding but to be honest they are LIARS-if I would have known the severity of this place I would not have moved here and after 2 months I am trying to break my lease to get out because I fear for my safety. Another thing the place is falling apart-the cabinet drawers do not close correctly we have barely any insulation in our home so our electric bill is always high. When it rains the entire place smells like mold. It even had BUGS. I had to buy bug bombs from the store to treat this place for BED BUGS that were left here. We had no idea until a friend of mine stayed and woke up the next day to have his ENTIRE back,neck and legs covered in welts. Pets- When I was moving here I was told that I could bring my pet. They have a 25 lbs limit here and at the time she was 33 I had talked to the manager and she said it was fine. When we moved and I went to pay my pet deposit she refused to let me bring her due to weight? She is a boxer mix-but since I have been living here I have seen at least 10 pit bulls no joke and various mix breeds that obviously weighed more than 25 lbs. If you honestly care about your well being then this is NOT the place for you.If you have children its even worse. This place will rent to anyone they have no discrimination here,which includes sex offenders-they have a website that will show you how many actually live here and the sad thing is there are tons of children here. They don't care about your safety or your children just renting out the apartments.
