Apartment Review for University Village - Columbus, OH

I lived at UV last year and was not happy w/experience. 1) First off the price is a bit high and you can get much more for the money at another complex. 2) My main problem was that we had very loud neighbors below us. They partied all the time, played loud music, and screamed and yelled a lot (sounded like fighting). The walls and floors are paper thin, and we could hear not only people below us but people next door too. We ended up complaining to management many times about these neighbors, and they never did anything. "We can send them a note asking them to be quiet..." but I do not know if a note was ever sent. Basically management seemed more annoyed by us complaining than by the noisy neighbors themselves. 3) Loud people outside every night drinking and skateboarding and doing who knows what. Even with our windows shut, we could hear the people yelling. We would ask the people to be quiet and they would not quiet down at all. This was not just on weekends- it was almost every night. They would leave their beer bottles outside, and also other trash and ciggarette butts, making the yard messy and gross. 4) Smokers! People would stand outside and smoke right by the building or on the porch. Being a non-smoker, this was very bothersome to me. The smoke would float into my apartment through the windows and also through the floorboards (the people below us smoked) and also people would smoke in the hallway. Eventually my roommate and I decided to get out of our lease and move out because management would not do anything about the loud neighbors. UV would not let us get out of the lease unless we subletted, and they would not help us find subletters. Luckily we found someone to take over our lease and we moved out of there. I will say some positive things though. Plenty of parking at our building (though some buildings do not have enough parking). The maintenance there was suprisingly great. Did not make up for management and leasing being so rude though! Anyways, maintenance would show up usually the same day as we called and would fix our problems. Maintenance was always friendly too. Also we had a new kitchen- new appliances- which was very nice.
